It is the policy of the University to comply with all Federal and State Regulations associated with supporting students and complying with requirements of accreditation associated with Credit Hours.
Reason for Policy/Purpose
In accordance with federal regulations effective July 1, 2011, both institutions and accrediting agencies are required to come into compliance with regulations regarding the definition and assignment of credit hours.
Who Needs to Know this Policy
This policy pertains to all courses and applies to all University faculty, associate deans, deans, the registrar, and staff who schedule courses for credit at Heritage University.

A credit hour is an amount of work represented in intended learning outcomes and verified by evidence of student achievement.
Heritage University has established credit hour equivalencies that reasonably approximates not less than:
- One hour of classroom or direct faculty instruction and a minimum of two hours of out of class student work each week for approximately fifteen weeks for one semester or the equivalent amount of work over a different amount of time; of
- At least an equivalent amount of work as required in item (1) of this definition for other academic activities as established by Heritage University, including laboratory work internships, practicum, studio work and other academic work leading to the award of credit hours.
The Office of the Provost will conduct annual reviews of syllabi to determine compliance with this policy and will address any corrective action necessary to align with this policy.
