Math Placement Assessment

The math placement assessment is a computerized assessment tool used to determine readiness for mathematics courses. Heritage University uses the ALEKS Placement Preparation and Learning (ALEKS PPL) assessment tool, which includes multiple assessment attempts and an individualized prep and learning module for students to refresh their knowledge before re-assessing.

HU’s math assessment consists of three parts:

  • An initial placement assessment
  • The Prep and Learning Module, which is an individualized, self-paced, online review
  • Access to 4 additional placement assessments

What is the purpose of taking the placement assessment?

Math placement is a critical component for success in any student’s first math course.  The correct math placement prevents you from enrolling in a class that is either too difficult or not challenging enough. Your assessment results are used to determine the most appropriate math course to begin in. Starting in the right math course sets you up for success!

Is the ALEKS PPL Assessment required?

While the assessment is not required, all new and incoming HU students are highly encouraged to take it, especially for students whose initial transcript mathematics placement is MATH 94, 95, or 96.

How do I take the assessment?

To take the assessment, either drop in or schedule an appointment.

The assessment will take place in the ASC, which is located in the Kathleen Ross Building. Just turn down the left hallway before entering the library and stop at the front desk to check in.

Make sure to bring a photo ID with you. Your personal belongings, including phones and smart watches, will be stored in a secure location during your assessment.

The average time to take the test is about 1 hour, but you will have up to 2.

We look forward to seeing you! Questions? Contact us!
