SUMMARY:A Bigger Bite of the Apple: History\, Culture\, and the Latinx Experience in Washington State
DESCRIPTION:FREE VIRTUAL LECTURE IN CELEBRATION OF HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH\nThe Chicano and Latino community in Washington State is easily traced to the 19th century. However\, permanent viable communities began to emerge in the 1920-1930s. Since that period\, not only has this population grown dramatically\, but has made distinct contributions to the development of Washington. This presentation will trace the history of this community from the early twentieth century to present. We will explore the history\, culture\, and contributions of the largest underrepresented group in the state of Washington. \nDR. JERRY GARCIA received his Ph.D. in history from Washington State University. His research focus is on Chicana/o History\, Latin American and Mexican History\, Asians in the Americas\, immigration\, empire\, masculinity\, and race in the Americas. He currently oversees the Sea Mar Chicana/o and Latina/o Cultural and History Museum\, as well as promotes and advocates for educational opportunities for our Chicanx and Latinx community\, through such programs as the Latina/o Educational Achievement Project (LEAP). \n\nView Flyer \nJoin from a PC\, Mac\, iPad\, iPhone or Android device: \nPlease click this URL to join. https://heritage.zoom.us/j/92701584633?pwd=dGJ6NW12MmQ4OFZabHlBeFpRN3BSZz09 \nPasscode: 830608 \nOr join by phone: \nDial(for higher quality\, dial a number based on your current location): \nUS: +1 253 215 8782  or +1 669 900 6833  or +1 346 248 7799  or +1 301 715 8592  or +1 312 626 6799  or +1 929 205 6099 \nWebinar ID: 927 0158 4633 \nInternational numbers available: https://heritage.zoom.us/u/aht4Z8Wb9

SUMMARY:Empowher 2020 (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:  \nHeritage University is an institution founded by women and where women make up 70% of our student body; at Heritage\, we are all about empowering women to make an impact in the world. \nHeritage University is an institution founded by women and where women make up 70% of our student body; at Heritage\, we are all about empowering women to make an impact in the world. 2020 is the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment\, which guaranteed women the right to vote. To commemorate this\, we are bringing a panel of women leaders from across the state for a virtual event that will educate and inspire women in our community. \nMeet Regina Malveaux\, Director of the Washington State Women’s Commission \nWe’ve come a long way in the 100 years since the ratification of the 19th Amendment. But there is still so much more that needs to be done to build true equality. Please join us for a stimulating discussion by a diverse group of women as we explore how we\, as women\, can come together to affect change and build opportunities for us all. \nVisit the event page for more information and to register. \nPlease contact Dana Eliason for more information: eliason_d@heritage.edu or (509) 865-0441
