DESCRIPTION:  \nCarolyn Nelson: Conversations with the Wind March 30 – April 30\nYou are invited to share in this special exhibition of works by Carolyn Nelson\, professor emerita and former Heritage University Fine Arts chair. \nCarolyn will share paintings and ceramic sculptures that combine figurative imagery with references to the natural and human-built environment to express and explore her relationship with the natural and spiritual world. She often incorporates her love of the surrounding landscape of the sage steppe surrounding her home in Ahtanum Valley outside of Yakima. \nShe earned an MFA in painting from Central Washington University and a BA in Anthropology from the University of Washington. In addition to the exhibit\, Carolyn is donating two of her works to be a part of the university’s permanent art collection. \nReception with the Artist\nWednesday\, April 13\n3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.\nVirginia S. SUMMARY:An Introduction to Tai Chi and Qigong with Virginia Norton
DESCRIPTION:  \nAs we approach the end of the semester and finals week\, Pathways\, a project of the Network for Vocation in Undergraduate Education\, encourages students\, staff and faculty to take a moment for self-care and stress reduction by participating in this intro to Tai Chi and Qigong workshop.  Tai Chi and Qigong are mind-body-spirit practices that improve one’s mental and physical health by integrating posture\, movement\, breathing technique\, self-massage\, sound\, and focused intent.  All you need are some comfortable clothes\, willingness to learn something new\, and give yourself a little gift of time to breath and relax with these gentle movements. \nVirginia Norton\, our workshop leader\, has been studying Tai Chi and Qigong under several instructors and masters for over 10 years. She received a black belt in the internal martial arts from the Ching Yi Kung Fu Association\, is certified as a Qigong instructor by the Institute of Integral Qigong and Tai Chi\, and is currently studying under the Qigong and Daoist Master Liu He. Virginia teaches Tai Chi and Qigong both in person and online.
