Let’s do the important stuff first. I've been married to Bonnie since 1980 and together we enjoy reading, travel, hospitality, hiking and talking about things that matter. I recently retired from pastoral work, and my faith is central to me.

I'm a motorcyclist and try to take a week or more each year on an trip far from home. I enjoy writing and editing and music, both performing (cello, guitar and vocal) and taking in live music of many sorts.

My undergraduate degree is from the University of Washington in journalism. I have a Master of Divinity degree and a Doctor of Ministry degree, both from Fuller Theological Seminary, where I was an adjunct professor for four years. (My dissertation examined how technique and technology can easily get in the way of caring for people.)

I taught upper-level writing in Lithuania at the LCC University in Klaipeda for two years, serving on both the English and Theology faculties. I also redeveloped the Senior Thesis program for the University and worked with all the thesis writers their senior year.

Along the way I've helped friends prepare manuscripts for publication and had a few articles of my own published in journals—most of which no longer exist.

I love being in the classroom. I experience joy when students make connections that increase their understanding and deepen their life.
