About Our Program
At Heritage, we believe there’s more to history than just dates and events.
Our History Department helps students explore the people, attitudes and actions that shaped us into who we are today — deepening our understanding of people and societies different from our own. This multi-cultural approach to the human past situates the history of the Pacific Northwest within the context of global forces that shape contemporary life.
Our department builds collaborative classroom environments that help students develop multiple interpretive tools to make sense of the past. You’ll build cognitive skills and learn to make critical decisions with an understanding of how a single event can impact the collective community. To put those skills into practice, all of our students are given the opportunity to participate in at least one intensive research experience, and many of them present research papers across the United States.
