About Our Program
The Social Science program is one of the most flexible bachelor’s degree offerings at Heritage University. It is a multidisciplinary degree program designed to help students with college credits that are not concentrated in a single social science major to move through to graduation. With the help of their advisor, students build their academic path in a manner that best matches their current credits and their career goals. Students take core classes from across several study areas including: social work, criminal justice, psychology, political science, sociology, and history. Additionally, they choose a primary concentration in either psychology or criminal and legal studies, and a secondary concentration in either psychology, criminal and legal studies, social welfare, history, or a self-determined area developed with the assistance of their advisor.
Students majoring in Social Science with concentrations in criminal and legal studies or psychology can elect to take their courses either in person or completely online. This provides even greater flexibility as students are able to balance their work and family responsibilities with their academic schedule. Other concentrations include courses that need to be taken in person.
Social science is a powerful academic foundation that provides you with the opportunity to develop skills employers value in employees. These include: oral and written communication; the ability to build interpersonal relationships and work well in teams; thinking analytically, critically and being able to problem solve. These skills lend themselves to a wide array of career fields. Heritage’s Social Science degree program prepares students for entry into professional careers or advanced study programs in education, social services, law, psychological services, politics, or other areas that support the community.
